DIMENSIONING OF WOOD CONSTRUCTIONS IN ARCADIA-RAMA.

What is the EuroDrewno program?

EuroDrewno is an ArCADia-RAMA dimensioning module, designed for dimensioning of single-branch, spatial wooden structures with rectangular cross-sections, of solid or glued wood, according to PN-EN 1995-1-1 Eurocode 5 - Designing of wooden structures - Part 1-1: Provisions general and building rules: 2010, in the R2D2-Rama 2D and R3D3-3D 3D programs, in a bi-directional state of stress, taking into account the torsional moment.

The program is made in the form of an integrated ArCADia-RAMA installation, built into the R2D2-Rama 2D or R3D3-Rama 3D static calculation program, which requires a separate license to operate. Currently R2D2-Rama 2D and R3D3-Rama 3D can work in two configurations:

  • Separately as a program only for static calculations (then the EuroDrewno module works only in demo version) - license for R2D2 or R3D3 is required.
  • In combination with the EuroDrewno module as a program for static calculations and dimensioning of wooden elements - license required for R2D2 (R3D3) and EuroDrewno.

Features and possibilities of the program.

  • Dimensioning of spatial wooden structures with rectangular sections of solid and glued wood in a two-way stress state, taking into account the torsional moment in the ArCADia-Rama 3D program.
  • The user can create any dimension type definitions (buckling coefficients, cross-section weakening, allowable deflection and other parameters), which can then be used in any project.
  • Modification factor k mod adopted automatically based on a group of loads with the shortest time of impact on the structure in a given combination, or manually, based on the user's decision.
  • Dimensioning of individual members, groups of members that are collinear and close to collinear (with an angle change of less than 5 degrees).
  • The envelopes of internal forces are automatically checked at all characteristic points of the dimensioned element.
  • Normal and tangential stresses in the element cross-section are checked separately.
  • Additionally, the user has the option of dimensioning at any indicated points of the element, for all envelopes, or for one selected.
  • The program determines the maximum relative deflection and displacement of the element in a complex state of stress, taking into account rheological influences and possible influence of shear forces, and compares them with the permissible value.
  • Dimensioning report in the form of manual calculations, containing all intermediate results, made in RTF (MS Word) format.

For the correct and full operation of the EuroDrewno module, a program for editing or viewing report files (RTF format) in the form of e.g. MS Word (from version 2003) or MS Word Viewer is required.

Before proceeding to final dimensioning of elements, the static system should be carefully checked, counted and subjected to preliminary analysis. To do this efficiently it is recommended to do the following before proper sizing:

  • We divide the bars of the system into groups of bars, which in our opinion should have the same cross-section and should be made of a material with the same mechanical properties (of the same class).
  • We assign properties to individual groups of bars in the form of ultimate compressive and tensile strengths for the anticipated wood species.
  • We calculate the statics of the system and in 3D View we check for which bars the assumed normal stress was exceeded (it is also worth checking how big the exceedance is), then for these bars we increase the cross-section or change the material parameters and recalculate the statics until all the bars are within the boundary assumed elastic stresses.
  • Finally, we proceed to real dimensioning with the EuroDrewno dimensioning module.

The activities described above are a prerequisite for meeting the load capacity conditions, while the final condition is a thorough check of the load capacity in the EuroDrewno dimensioning module.

What is InterDrewno?

InterDrewno is a module of the ArCADia-RAMA program, which enables the dimensioning of spatial wooden structures with rectangular cross-sections of solid and glued wood according to PN-B-03150: 2000 Az1 and Az2 in a bi-directional state of stress taking into account the twisting moment. 

Module functionality:

  • The user can create any dimension type definitions (buckling coefficients, cross-section weakening, allowable deflection and other parameters), which can then be used in any project. 
  • The kmod modification factor is adopted automatically on the basis of a group of loads with the greatest impact on the structure in a given combination, or manually, based on the user's decision. 
  • Dimensioning of individual members, groups of members that are collinear and close to collinear (with an angle change of less than 5 degrees). 
  • The envelopes of internal forces are automatically checked at all characteristic points of the dimensioned element. 
  • Normal and tangential stresses in the element cross-section are checked separately. 
  • Additionally, the user has the option of dimensioning at any indicated points of the element, for all envelopes, or for one selected.
