APM FLOW ANALYSIS

Calculation of liquid and gas flow in APM products

The structure of APM FGA and its integration into the APM Multiphysics software package

The APM FGA software product , created on the basis of the APM Structure3D and APM Studio modules , has a set of necessary proprietary tools for performing all stages of solving problems in fluid mechanics and gases, the modular structure of which can be represented in the following form.

Fluid and gas mechanics

The module for preparing graphic information includes means of three-dimensional geometric modeling for creating volumetric geometric models and their visual presentation, as well as exchange (export / import) models with third-party 3D editors.
The module for automatic generation of the finite element mesh includes support for the ability to create and edit the mesh in manual mode.
The preprocessor information preparation module includes tools for specifying materials with characteristic properties and parameters of currents and flow media, initial and boundary conditions in the form of constant values or variables in coordinates and time, as well as their various combinations, visualization of initial and boundary conditions in a geometric model and of course -element grid.

In the processor module for providing computational problems in various formulations, mathematical models are implemented by numerical finite element method for stationary weakly compressible laminar / turbulent flows, isothermal / thermal flows taking into account various heat exchange processes, such as heat conduction, forced and natural convection, radiation, conjugate heat exchange.

The postprocessor information module includes the visualization of analysis results in the form of contour and vector static maps and streamlines, as well as animations of scalar and vector fields of flow characteristics.

Schematically, the integration of the APM FGA software product into a single structure of the APM Multiphysics software product is presented in the following form.

The software product the APM Multiphysics , having in his part of the APM the FGA , and have a unified user computing architecture to provide the conjugate to cross-cutting tasks in a single finite element model through connections at the level of preprocessors and CPU details of which can be found in the relevant section.

Types of APM FGA Assays

Analysis of potential flows allows calculating the velocity and pressure fields of ideal flows (incompressible, isothermal, non-viscous). Due to its simplicity and speed of solution, this analysis is widely used at the preliminary design stages, where the goal is not to obtain an exact solution and we can ignore viscous effects.

Flow filtration analysis is used to calculate pressure fields and flow rates through an orthotropic porous medium in stationary and non-stationary settings. This analysis is widely used in the design of dams, to account for seepage through the body of the dam, dam or through the base of the soil.

The Navier-Stokes flow analysis based on solving the Navier-Stokes equations averaged over Reynolds is used to calculate the fields of various kinematic, dynamic, thermal, energy characteristics of internal / external low-compressive flows in stationary laminar / turbulent isothermal / thermal formulations.
