KOMPAS-3D contains tools for creating in a 3D model the necessary and sufficient data for its production: dimensions, designation elements (centerlines, threads, bases, shape tolerances, etc.), technical requirements, unspecified roughness. This means that KOMPAS-3D already now allows you to abandon electronic product drawings.

DATA EXCHANGE WITH OTHER CAD SYSTEMS

Opportunities of KOMPAS-3D for information exchange with other CAD systems:

  • export and import (with subsequent editing) of 3D geometry and model data through the formats STEP, ACIS, IGES, Parasolid, etc .;

HIGH-QUALITY DESIGN OF DESIGN AND PROJECT DOCUMENTATION

One of the main advantages of KOMPAS-3D is the execution of documentation in full compliance with the rules of ESKD or SPDS. This is confirmed by users of other CAD systems, performing 3D models of products in their CAD, and drawings, specifications, diagrams, lists - in KOMPAS-3D.

WORKING WITH LARGE ASSEMBLIES

It became possible to create products of any complexity thanks to the concept of KOMPAS-3D performance, implemented in 2018. More than 30 processes have been accelerated, special techniques for working with large assemblies have been introduced, the necessary hardware resources (processors, video cards) are used.

OBJECT MODELING

The functionality of any software product is aimed at automating and performing any task in the shortest possible time. In KOMPAS-3D, it is possible to design a product faster using object modeling, in which the component parts of the product are created not using sketches and shaping operations, but using ready-made standard “objects”. Such objects in KOMPAS-3D include fasteners, springs, shafts, mechanical transmissions, pipelines, metal structures, electrical wires and much more.

DESIGN TECHNIQUES


KOMPAS-3D supports several product design techniques. The most promising in terms of speed is top-down design (MNP or "top-down"). It is about design from the head assembly level to the part level.

The use of MNP ensures the parallel development of the component parts of the product by several performers, and also significantly reduces the time for making changes to the project by managing the layout of the product.

INTEGRATION WITH PRODUCT LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS


After the completion of the design, the life cycle of the product (LCI) continues with the stages of technological preparation of production, testing, manufacturing, operation of the product, etc. To automate these stages, a control system for the LCI, a PLM-class system, is required. KOMPAS-3D contains the necessary tools for embedding (integration) into any existing PLM environment. The closest integration is organized with the engineering data management system LOTSMAN: PLM (developed by ASCON)
